and this final thought

after all these years, i got my shout-out in an inaugural address. check it out:
[about halfway through]
.....
"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers . . ."
.....
[read the entire speech here]
.....
i am still stunned, but happy. take that, al roker!

Wasn't that a treat?

I personally enjoyed the entirely applicable quote from Washington,
"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

There is so much cynicism, and yet, as a Vietnam-vet friend of mine said on Tuesday, "The only hope is hope."
