Complete and utter fucking bullshit. I got cut off by an IC cop a couple of years ago and politely followed along behind him as he did the race to the next red light/stop sign game. Caught up to him 6 blocks later and confronted him, he said he did not see me and would not so much as apologize. Cops are people too, I guess, except that they are cops. I see them driving around town talking on cell phones like anyone else and would not be surprised to find out this cop was on the phone or getting a blow job from a hooker or maybe just changing the radio station. All I can say is its fucking bullshit and that cop should go to jail.

i have long said, and still feel, that the excuse "i didn't see you" is at the very least an admission of guilt to a charge of reckless driving, and an admission of liability and responsibility in a civil suit for damages.
if the person "doesn't see" and is shown to have been cellphone talking, eating, shaving, putting on makeup, getting or receiving a blow job, then THAT elevates it to negligence, and perhaps wilfullness, and should increase the culpability and criminal exposure accordingly.

yup, that is one fucked up situation. "i didn't see..."

Crossed the double yellow line to hit them head on? The cop car ended seven feet up the embankment on the opposite side? On top of a bike? Geez...

Well according to Velonews online the officer said he had fallen asleep at the wheel. I am sure there are lots of circumstances that led to this tragedy, not just that he did not get enough sleep the night before and I am not going to speculate anymore. This is the sort of thing that just makes me so angry. As a society we accept the sometimes severe consequences of our car dependence as the cost of doing business. We - all of us - see it everyday. Distracted driving is not just tolerated, its freaking marketed to and encouraged! When something bad happens we cry about it and say how terrible it is and remark on how dangerous the world is and then get back in our big bigger biggest cars and trucks and happily jam out to the latest pop radio hits until we run over someone else. Which happens with alarming regularity yet no one seems to be able to muster the political will to attach real consequences to driving while distracted or asleep. Cars are toys, don't worry about it, you have insurance! Drive! Drive! Drive! 45,000 people a year die as a result of this attitude and what do we do but go ape shit and start wars elsewhere to avenge less destruction. I'm ready to enlist in the war on Detroit.
