A little history lesson (and a little more to support the Mostly Reverend's take on road usage)...

For anyone that might think that the American road system was never intended for bicycle use... I humbly submit... "The Good Roads Movement."

There is plenty more out there all the uninformed have to do is pick up a book evey now and then. I also encourage those "uninformed" to examine the origins of such organizations as the League of American Bicyclists (originally the League of American Wheelman).
http://www.bikeleague.org/about/history.php

From the very first paragraph of their website!

"The League began as the League of American Wheelmen (LAW) in 1880, and was responsible for defending the rights of cyclists from its start. The League of American Wheelmen is credited with getting paved roads in this country before the reign of the automobile."

Notice the key phrase..."BEFORE THE REIGN OF THE AUTOMOBILE!!!!"

Oh, how the uninformed can be so dangerous!

Sure. I am around most of the day on Thursdays. Teach from 9:30 to 11:00, otherwise usually wide open. Drop me a line at ergopowr@iastate.edu and we can talk.
